Nothing CEO Carl Pei says the company will ship its first AI device in December, and it will not have a screen.
In short: Nothing CEO Carl Pei says the company will launch its first AI-focused device in December, and it will not include a screen.
Carl Pei, the CEO of the consumer electronics company Nothing, posted on X that the company will ship its “first AI-native product” next month, which points to a December launch.
Pei did not say what the device is, or what it looks like. He did say one clear detail, it will not have a “new screen.” He also said it “couldn’t have been an app,” meaning it is meant to be a separate piece of hardware, not just software you download onto a phone.
Pei shared a teaser image that shows the word “NOTHING(R)” and part of a black, rounded corner, but it does not reveal much. The Verge notes recent rumors that Nothing may be working on AI smart glasses, including a model without cameras, and that the company may be shifting its focus toward AI accessories.
Nothing’s move would put it in the same broad category as other screen-free AI gadgets like the Humane AI Pin and other AI wearables. These are devices designed to help with tasks using AI without making you look at a phone screen, more like a hands-free assistant you carry with you.
A screen-free AI device is another attempt to make AI easier to use in daily life without adding more time spent staring at a phone. Whether people actually want a separate device for that is still an open question, and December should bring clearer answers about what Nothing is building and who it is for.
