Netflix is rolling out a new Discover tab on its TV app. It suggests shows and movies by themes like Family Movie Night and learns from your feedback.
In short: Netflix is adding a new “AI Discover” tab to its TV app to suggest shows and movies based on themes.
Netflix says its TV app is getting a new tab called “Discover,” powered by what it calls AI Discover. AI here means software that tries to learn what you like, based on what you do and what you tell it.
The first feature inside AI Discover focuses on themes. Examples include “Something Light,” “Family Movie Night,” and “Quick Watches.” When you pick a theme, Netflix will show a set of recommendations that fit that mood, like choosing a shelf label at a bookstore and getting a short list from that section.
Netflix also says you can tell the app when you do not like a recommendation. The company says the system will remember that feedback and keep learning in real time.
AI Discover will appear as a Discover tab in the top menu of the TV app. Netflix says it is starting to roll out gradually in the US for members who use Netflix in English on supported TVs.
The Verge notes this update comes after Netflix recently laid off around 1,000 employees. The report also points to signs that growth has slowed and that users are reportedly opening the app less often.
Finding something to watch can feel like scrolling forever. A theme-based menu could make picking a show faster, especially for families or short viewing sessions. It also gives Netflix another way to shape what you see, so it will matter how well the feature matches your tastes and how much control users feel they have.
