How AIDIRECTORY selects, reviews, and maintains AI tool listings — our standards for accuracy, fairness, and editorial independence.
AIDIRECTORY exists to help people discover, compare, and evaluate AI tools with confidence. Every listing on our platform goes through a structured editorial process designed to ensure accuracy, fairness, and usefulness.
We are not a pay-to-rank directory. Our editorial standards apply equally to free and paid listings. This page explains exactly how our editorial process works so you can understand what goes into every listing you see.
Anyone can submit an AI tool for consideration. We also proactively research and add tools that are relevant to our audience.
Every submission goes through the same editorial pipeline:
We reject submissions that are fraudulent, misleading, or do not meet our quality standards. We reserve the right to edit any submission for clarity, accuracy, or consistency.
For full details, see How Product Submissions Work.
Each tool is assigned categories and tags during the editorial process. Categories represent broad functional areas (e.g. "AI Writing", "Image Generation"), while tags capture finer details like features, technology, pricing model, and target audience.
Classification uses a combination of AI-assisted analysis and human review. Our system analyses the tool's website and documentation to suggest categories and tags, which are then reviewed and adjusted by our editorial team before publication.
Product ranking on AIDIRECTORY is designed to be fair and transparent. There is no way to pay for higher organic placement in our default rankings.
For logged-in users with profile data, the default sort is personalised based on your selected interests and job roles. Tools matching your interests and roles score higher. Verified tools receive a small ranking bonus.
For all other visitors, tools are displayed in a daily-shuffled order that changes every day. This gives every listing a fair chance to be discovered. Verified products receive slightly higher weighting in the shuffle.
Premium listings (paid submissions) receive a small visibility boost in both ranking modes. This is disclosed transparently — premium listings are the only case where payment affects organic visibility, and the boost is modest relative to relevance signals.
Users can override the default sort at any time by choosing Latest, Popular, Name A–Z, or Name Z–A.
For full details, see How Product Ranking Works.
User reviews are central to how AIDIRECTORY helps people make decisions. We take review integrity seriously.
Any signed-in user can leave one review per product. Reviews must include a star rating (1–5) and written feedback between 10 and 1,000 characters. Reviewers can optionally upload proof-of-usage screenshots to earn a "Verified" badge on their review.
Every review is automatically evaluated using AI-powered analysis before publication. The system assesses authenticity, content quality, specificity, conflict-of-interest signals, and behavioural patterns. Reviews that pass all checks are published immediately. Reviews that are flagged are held for further review.
We do not publicly disclose the specific moderation criteria — this helps keep the system effective against manipulation.
Product owners cannot pay to alter, remove, or suppress reviews. They can respond publicly to approved reviews on their claimed listing, but they have no control over review visibility or ratings. The star rating displayed on a product page is the unweighted average of all approved reviews.
For full details, see How Reviews Work.
Our moderation pipeline operates in multiple stages:
Review summaries are automatically generated by AI once a product accumulates enough reviews, helping visitors quickly understand community sentiment.
The verified badge on a product listing means we have confirmed, to a reasonable extent, that the listing information is accurate. A product can earn verification through:
What verification does NOT mean:
Verification can be lost if a product's website goes offline, a user reports inaccurate information that we confirm, or the listing accuracy score drops on a subsequent check.
For full details, see How Verification Works.
Editorial independence is fundamental to AIDIRECTORY. We maintain a strict separation between our editorial process and our commercial relationships.
If a conflict of interest is identified after publication, we will disclose it or remove the affected content.
AIDIRECTORY offers two types of paid visibility:
When submitting a tool, submitters can choose between Free, Standard ($97), and Premium ($197) tiers. Paid tiers receive faster processing, do-follow backlinks, and content update support. Premium listings also receive homepage featuring and a modest ranking boost.
All paid listings go through the same editorial and QA process as free listings. Payment affects turnaround time and visibility — not editorial treatment.
We sell ad placements (banners, product page ads, listing ads) to AI tool companies. All advertisements are:
For full details, see How Ads Work.
We actively maintain our listings to keep information current:
Product owners with claimed listings can request content updates at any time (available on Standard and Premium tiers).
If you find inaccurate information, a broken link, or any other issue with a listing, you can report it directly from the product page. We support reports for:
All reports are reviewed by our team. You will receive email notifications when your report is received and when it is resolved or dismissed.
For full details, see How Reports Work.
If you have questions about our editorial process, want to report an issue, or need to reach our team, email us at hi@aidirectory.com.
We read every email and aim to respond within 2 business days.
