An open source gadget called Clawdmeter lets Claude Code users see their token usage on a small desktop screen with simple charts and animations.
In short: A new open source desk gadget called Clawdmeter shows your Claude Code usage stats on a small screen.
A software developer in Reykjavik, Iceland, Hermann Haraldsson, built a small device called Clawdmeter that connects to a laptop and displays Claude Code usage.
Claude Code is Anthropic’s tool for helping people write and edit software with AI. Like many AI services, it measures use in “tokens,” which are small pieces of text. You can think of tokens like the words and punctuation an AI reads and writes, and your plan sets limits on how many you can use.
Clawdmeter puts those numbers on a tiny desktop dashboard. It shows pixel art animations and then, with a button press, displays session and weekly usage in simple charts. The device can connect over Bluetooth, and it includes extra buttons that can trigger shortcuts in Claude Code.
The project is open source, meaning the instructions and code are public and people can copy or change them. TechCrunch reports that since its May 10 launch, the project has received more than 800 stars and around 50 forks on GitHub, which are common ways developers show interest and make their own versions.
For most people, this is not a must-have. But it shows how closely some software developers track their AI usage, almost like watching a data meter on your desk. It also highlights how AI tools can help people build small hardware projects faster, even if they are not experts in electronics.
