Wix-owned Base44 is releasing Base1, its own AI model, aiming to cut costs and improve speed for people who build apps by typing what they want.
In short: Base44, a Wix-owned tool that helps people build apps by describing them in plain English, is starting to roll out its own AI model called Base1.
Base44 says it has begun rolling out Base1, an in-house AI model that supports users who create apps using natural language, meaning you type what you want and the system turns it into working software.
Until now, many “vibe coding” platforms, tools that help you make apps with simple instructions instead of traditional programming, have relied on outside AI models. Base44’s founder, Maor Shlomo, told TechCrunch the company wants more control over speed, cost, and efficiency by training and owning the model as part of its product.
Base44 said Base1 was trained on data from “tens of millions of real user interactions” on the platform. Think of that like learning from a huge pile of practice runs, based on what real customers asked for and what worked.
The move also reflects competition in this space. TechCrunch notes rivals like Lovable rely on external models, while larger AI players are moving closer to app building tools too.
For everyday users and businesses, this could affect price and reliability. If Base44 can run more of the AI work on its own systems, it may be able to make the tool faster and cheaper over time. It also means Base44 is less dependent on other companies for the core “brain” of its product, which can matter when outside AI providers change pricing or access.
