Notion says its Notion Mail app will close on September 22, 2026, as it shifts focus to AI agents that handle email tasks for users.
In short: Notion says it will shut down Notion Mail on September 22, 2026, because many users now rely on Notion’s AI agents instead of opening an inbox.
Notion announced that it will close the Notion Mail inbox across the web app, desktop apps, and iOS app on September 22. Notion shared the news in a post on X.
Notion Mail was released in April 2025 as a way to use Gmail through a different app. Notion said the product was largely built by the team that came over when Notion acquired Skiff, an encrypted email and productivity start-up, in February 2024. Notion previously shut down Skiff’s own email service, including @skiff.com addresses.
Notion says user behavior is the main reason for this shutdown. The company said more than half of Notion Mail users now “manage emails without ever opening their inbox” by using Notion agents. An AI agent is a helper that can take actions for you, like sorting messages or drafting replies (like an assistant who works from instructions, not just a spellchecker).
Notion says most email data will remain in Gmail. However, users should export drafts and scheduled emails by September 21, since those will not automatically move to another email app. Notion also says users can export saved text snippets and labeling instructions.
If you used Notion Mail, you will need to switch to another way to access Gmail before the September deadline, and you may need to save certain items manually. Some organizations have an earlier deadline. Notion’s support page says anyone relying on HIPAA coverage should transition off Notion Mail by June 30, 2026.
