OpenAI posted a teaser for a small button device tied to its Codex coding tool. It is set to launch July 15 in partnership with Work Louder.
In short: OpenAI teased a small, button-filled device for its Codex coding tool, and it says it will launch on July 15.
OpenAI posted a short teaser video on X showing a square-shaped device with several buttons. The post says, “Your favorite Codex shortcuts are getting an upgrade.” The company also gave a date, July 15.
Codex is OpenAI’s AI-powered coding tool, which helps people write and work with computer code. “Shortcuts” are quick commands, like pressing a key to run an action instead of clicking through menus.
The Verge reports that this device is not the separate, more secretive AI device that OpenAI is working on with former Apple designer Jony Ive. Instead, OpenAI’s teaser points to a partnership with Work Louder, a company known for mechanical keyboards and “macro pads.” A macro pad is like a tiny extra keyboard (a control panel) with buttons you can set up to do specific actions in different apps.
The silhouette in the teaser looks similar to Work Louder’s Creator Micro 2, which includes multiple keys and extra controls like a joystick and touch sensor. Work Louder has done similar partnerships before, including a shortcut-focused device made with design software company Figma.
If OpenAI and Work Louder are building a Codex-focused macro pad, it could make Codex faster to use for people who write code all day. It is similar to adding dedicated buttons for your most used actions, like having one-touch speed dial for tasks you repeat over and over.
