Spotify is adding tools that can generate personal podcast briefings and let some Premium users ask questions about an episode while listening.
In short: Spotify is rolling out new AI features that can generate personal podcast briefings and answer questions about podcast episodes.
Spotify announced a set of new podcast features focused on “personal podcasts,” which are podcasts made for one listener based on what they ask for. Users can type an idea or prompt (a written request, like giving instructions) and Spotify’s AI can create a short podcast and save it to their library.
People can also schedule daily or weekly briefings on topics they care about. For example, someone could ask for daily city updates plus local concerts from artists they like, or ask for a five minute explanation of economics. Users can add their own material, including links, PDFs, and text, and choose a voice for the audio.
Spotify also released a desktop app called Studio by Spotify Labs. Spotify says it can connect with a user’s email and calendar to create personalized briefings.
Separately, Spotify is launching an AI-powered Q&A feature for Premium users on mobile in the U.S., Sweden, and Ireland. It lets listeners ask questions about the episode they are playing, ask about a concept mentioned in the show, or request podcast recommendations on specific topics.
For creators, Spotify is expanding tools for making money. This includes its creator sponsorship tool for managing brand partnerships, and a way for creators to charge subscriptions for exclusive content and experiences.
For listeners, this is a shift from Spotify mainly being a place to pick shows made by others. It is also trying to become a place where you can “order” a podcast like you would order a custom playlist (like asking for a personal radio segment made just for you). For creators, the new sponsorship and subscription options could make it easier to earn income directly on Spotify.
