Reliance says new Jio AI features will help summarize calls, handle app tasks, and show home reminders, aiming to reach over 500 million users.
In short: Reliance Industries says it will add AI helpers to Jio phone calls, the MyJio app, and a new home display later this year.
Reliance, led by Mukesh Ambani, shared several AI announcements at its annual shareholder meeting. AI, or artificial intelligence, is software that can understand and respond to people in a human-like way.
One new feature is called Jio Call Agent. Reliance said it can join a phone call, write down what was said, create a summary, and do tasks like booking a cab or making a restaurant reservation. The company said users can turn it on by saying “Hey Jio,” and it is expected to launch later this year for Jio’s more than 500 million users.
Reliance also showed an AI-powered version of its MyJio app. It is meant to carry out requests in plain language, like activating an eSIM (a digital SIM card) or picking a roaming plan for travel.
For the home, Reliance introduced TeleFrame, a display that can show helpful information like weather alerts, schedules, and reminders. Think of it like a digital noticeboard that tries to bring up what you might need before you ask.
Separately, Ambani said Jio Platforms’ board has approved a draft prospectus for an initial public offering, including a fresh issue of up to 270 million shares.
If these tools are built into the phone network, they could become a default part of calling and everyday services for a very large number of people. It also raises privacy questions, since call transcripts and home reminders are sensitive data, and Reliance did not say whether that information could be used to train AI systems or shared with partners.
