A TechCrunch guide explains two ways to remove Gemini prompts in Google Docs, including turning off the Docs bottom bar or disabling Workspace smart features.
In short: TechCrunch published a step by step guide for people who want to hide or turn off Gemini AI prompts in Google Docs.
Some Google Docs users are seeing an on screen prompt that says “write with Gemini.” Gemini is Google’s AI helper, which can suggest text and writing ideas. For some people, the prompt feels like a pop up that gets in the way, like a sticky note that keeps appearing on your page.
TechCrunch says there are two main ways to make the Gemini box go away.
The first option is inside Google Docs. You can click “Gemini” in the top menu, then choose “bottom bar preferences,” and then turn off the bottom bar. This removes the Gemini box that sits at the bottom of the document.
The second option is broader and can reduce other AI style helpers across Google’s apps. TechCrunch says you can do this from Gmail settings. In Gmail, click the gear icon for Settings, choose “See all settings,” then find “Google Workspace smart features,” and select “Manage Workspace smart feature settings.” From there, you can toggle off smart features for Google Workspace, which TechCrunch says can stop Gemini prompts from showing up in Docs.
These steps matter for anyone who uses Google Docs for school, work, or personal writing and wants fewer interruptions. They also show that some AI features are tied to bigger account settings, not just a single app.
