Google will ship its first new smart speaker in six years on June 29. Preorders open June 17, with a $99 price and a Gemini for Home focus.
In short: Google says its new Google Home Speaker will start shipping on June 29, and preorders open June 17.
Google is releasing its first new smart speaker in six years. The device is called the Google Home Speaker, and Google says it will start shipping on June 29. Preorders open today, June 17.
The speaker costs $99. Google announced it about nine months ago, and The Verge reports that the hardware has not changed since then. It has a slightly squished, round shape, touch buttons on top, and a light ring at the bottom that shows its status.
Google is positioning the speaker around “Gemini for Home”, which is Google’s newer voice assistant for smart homes. A voice assistant is the part that listens when you speak and tries to carry out requests, like turning off lights or starting music (similar to talking to a helpful receptionist who can control things in your house). Google says you can use Gemini for Home on other Nest speakers and smart displays already, but this speaker is designed to deliver the best experience.
Google also says the speaker uses on-device features to help it hear you when your home is noisy. The Verge describes this as tools for noise cancellation, echo suppression, and separating voices from other sounds, so commands are easier to understand.
For people who use smart home gadgets, this is a new option from Google that is built around its latest voice assistant, not the older Google Assistant. The shipping date and price make it clear when the product will actually arrive, after Google previously aimed for a spring 2026 launch window.
