OpenAI is rolling out an Intelligent UI for ChatGPT that can add diagrams, charts, and sliders when they help explain an answer.
In short: OpenAI is updating ChatGPT so it can answer with interactive visuals, not just text.
OpenAI announced an update it calls “Intelligent UI” for ChatGPT. Instead of replying with a long block of writing every time, ChatGPT can now create visual elements like diagrams, charts, buttons, and sliders when they make the answer easier to use.
According to WIRED, the update is powered by OpenAI’s GPT-6 model (the underlying engine that produces ChatGPT’s responses). OpenAI said GPT-6 is rolling out to paid users first, then to free users the next day.
In a demo described by WIRED, ChatGPT generated a clickable diagram of a slug, with labeled parts you could tap for details. It also built an apartment affordability calculator for San Francisco, using sliders to adjust income and expenses. Another example was a seat map tool that let a user explore airplane layouts and highlight exit rows.
OpenAI says not every answer will include visuals. A product manager told WIRED the company tried to add graphics only when they add value, and users can ask for fewer visuals if they prefer.
For many people, a wall of text is hard to scan and even harder to act on. Interactive pieces can make ChatGPT feel less like reading a long email and more like using a simple tool, like a calculator or a map, built on the spot. It also puts ChatGPT closer to what Google has been showing in Search, where some questions can return adjustable graphics instead of only links and paragraphs.
