Meta is holding its annual Connect event, with Mark Zuckerberg expected to discuss AI, smart glasses, and how the company will address privacy worries.
In short: Meta is kicking off its Connect 2026 product event, where Mark Zuckerberg is expected to focus on AI and smart glasses, as the company faces privacy concerns about built-in cameras.
Meta is holding its annual September product launch event, called Meta Connect, in Menlo Park, California. The Verge is covering it live, and the opening keynote is scheduled for 7PM ET.
Meta says Zuckerberg’s keynote will be about how the company is “building a future for everyone.” Meta has also pointed people to a recent essay from Zuckerberg that discusses AI, smart glasses, and related products.
That sets expectations for updates on those areas. The Verge notes that Meta may also talk more about its recently launched Muse AI agent, which is a type of AI helper that can take actions for you (like a digital assistant that does more than answer questions).
Meta’s smart glasses have a built-in camera, and that has sparked privacy and harassment concerns. Some critics have even given them a mocking nickname, “pervert glasses,” because people worry they can be used to record others without clear consent.
Meta has already made privacy changes and launched a marketing campaign to improve the product’s reputation. Connect is a moment when Meta could announce more steps, and those choices could affect how comfortable people feel being around camera-equipped glasses in everyday places like sidewalks, stores, and public transit.
