YouTube announced new AI features in YouTube Studio, including an AI helper that suggests changes to older videos and runs tests on thumbnails and edits.
In short: YouTube is expanding its built-in AI tools to help creators change and test thumbnails, titles, and even different edits of the same video.
YouTube announced updates to its creator tools at its Made on YouTube event. The company has been adding AI features to YouTube Studio, the dashboard creators use to upload videos and track performance.
A key new feature is an AI “agent”, which is software that works in the background like an assistant. YouTube says it can scan a creator’s older videos and spot ones that suddenly matter again, for example because they match a news story or a new trend. It can then suggest updates like changing the title or thumbnail to better match what people are looking for.
YouTube is also expanding testing tools. Creators can upload up to three thumbnails for one video, and YouTube will show different images to different groups of viewers, then pick the one that keeps people watching longer. YouTube says creators can also test three versions of the same video, such as different intros, and the system can automatically keep the best-performing version after seven days.
For viewers, these tools could change what videos get attention, because YouTube will be helping creators adjust presentation and structure to fit what the platform rewards. For creators, it may save time, but it also raises a trust question. YouTube’s creator products leader, Amjad Hanif, said people tend to push back when it feels like the tools are making the content instead of the creator. YouTube did not share data showing the new tools increase views or watch time.
