Meta has bought Conductor, a startup that helps developers use multiple AI helpers on the same software project at the same time.
In short: Meta has acquired Conductor, a startup that helps software developers use multiple AI helpers to work on a coding project in parallel.
Meta confirmed it has acquired Conductor, an AI coding startup founded in 2024. The price and other deal details were not shared.
Conductor makes a tool that lets developers spin up a software project with several AI “agents” working at once. An agent is an AI helper that can take on a task, like writing code or fixing a bug (think of it like assigning different errands to different assistants at the same time).
According to Conductor, these agent teams can run in the cloud, on a local computer, or through a phone. Conductor says the agents it uses are not built by Conductor itself, but come from larger AI companies like Anthropic and OpenAI.
Conductor’s founder and CEO, Charlie Holtz, wrote that “Conductor is joining Meta” and hinted at “something new” for customers by early next year. Holtz also said Conductor’s core features will keep working as they did until early next year, except for Conductor’s cloud service. That cloud service will shut down on November 20, and the company will begin deleting user cloud data after that.
Meta has been trying to build stronger AI tools, including tools that help people write and manage computer code. Buying Conductor could help Meta add more features or talent in this area, while Conductor users will need to pay attention to the cloud shutdown date and plan for any data they stored there.
