A report says Apple plans a more chat-like Siri in iOS 27 with options to auto-delete conversations after 30 days, a year, or never.
In short: A report says Apple’s next Siri may include an option to automatically delete your past chats.
A more chat-like version of Siri is expected to debut in iOS 27, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, as cited by The Verge. The report says Siri will offer an auto-delete setting for chat history, meaning your old conversations can disappear automatically.
Users would reportedly be able to choose how long Siri keeps chats: 30 days, one year, or forever. Think of it like setting messages to self-destruct after a certain time, except it applies to your Siri conversation history.
The report also says Apple plans tighter limits on “memory,” which is the feature that lets a chatbot remember details about you for future replies. Many other chatbots rely on saved histories to personalize answers, but Apple is said to restrict what can be kept and for how long.
The Verge notes that Apple is trying to stand out by focusing on privacy, even as it adopts some technology from Google’s Gemini for parts of Apple Intelligence. Apple has been seen as behind some competitors in AI features, and this approach suggests it may be willing to trade convenience for stronger privacy controls.
If you use Siri for personal questions, work notes, or sensitive topics, auto-deleting chat history could reduce how much information stays stored over time. The downside is that Siri may be less helpful in follow-up conversations if it cannot remember what you asked before.
