Google Photos is rolling out a new feature that uses your photos to build a virtual wardrobe, so you can mix and match outfits and preview looks.
In short: Google Photos is launching a new feature that uses your existing pictures to help you virtually try on and plan outfits you already own.
Google says Google Photos will now be able to create a virtual “wardrobe” from the photos in your phone’s gallery. The idea is simple, it looks at pictures where you are wearing different clothes and then organizes those items for you.
In Google’s demo, Photos sorts both full outfits and individual clothing pieces into categories like tops, bottoms, skirts, dresses, and shoes. You can browse outfits you have worn before, or build a new one by picking items and mixing them together.
You can also save the outfit ideas you like and share them with friends. There is a button on each outfit that lets you “try on” a look virtually, meaning the app shows you what the outfit could look like on you using your photos (like holding clothes up to a mirror, but on your screen).
Google previously launched a separate virtual try-on tool for shopping, but that one was for clothes you were looking at in Google Search. This new feature is focused on clothes you already have.
Google says the “wardrobe” feature will start rolling out to Android later this summer. It will expand to iOS after that.
For regular people, this could make it easier to remember what is already in your closet and plan outfits faster, especially before a trip or an event. It may also help some users avoid buying duplicates because they forgot they owned something similar.
