Amazon is rolling out a feature in its shopping app that answers product questions with AI-generated audio, based on product details and reviews.
In short: Amazon has launched a new feature in its shopping app that lets shoppers ask product questions and hear spoken answers generated by AI.
Amazon introduced a feature called “Join the chat” on some product pages in the Amazon Shopping app. It lets you ask a question about an item and get an audio reply right away. You can type your question or speak it.
Amazon says the audio answers pull from product details, customer reviews, and other information on Amazon. For example, you could ask if a coffee maker is good for beginners, or whether a sweater feels itchy based on what reviewers said.
The company describes the voice as “AI-powered shopping experts.” AI here means software that can generate an answer in natural language, like a helpful store employee, but it is a computer system. Amazon also says the tool tries to build on what it already told you, so it does not repeat itself and can follow the flow of a back and forth conversation.
“Join the chat” sits inside a broader option called “Hear the highlights,” which provides short audio summaries on millions of product pages in the app. Amazon began testing “Hear the highlights” in 2025. The company says it is currently available in the U.S., but only some products include audio summaries.
Shopping online often means reading long descriptions and digging through reviews. Amazon is betting that a spoken Q&A, like asking a clerk for the quick version, will help people decide faster, especially when they are shopping on a phone.
