Amazon is inviting some customers in India to try Alexa+, starting with a Hindi version, as part of a limited beta test.
In short: Amazon has started testing Alexa+ in India and is inviting some users to try a Hindi-language version.
Amazon is preparing to expand Alexa+, its newer version of Alexa, to India. Alexa is the voice assistant used on Echo speakers and other devices.
According to TechCrunch, Amazon emailed some customers in India and asked them to join a beta program. A beta is an early test version (like a “preview” of a product) that can still have problems. The email asked people to fill out a form in Hindi by June 22 to sign up.
Amazon warned testers that the beta software could have bugs. It might also give inaccurate information or mispronounce local words and phrases. Amazon confirmed it is testing Alexa+ in India, but did not share more details or a launch date.
India has more than 600 million Hindi speakers, and many people switch between Hindi and English in the same conversation. A Hindi-friendly Alexa+ could make voice assistants easier to use for more people, especially those who prefer talking rather than typing. For customers, the key thing to watch is when Alexa+ becomes widely available in India, and whether it is included with Prime or requires a monthly fee, as it does in some other countries.
