Amazon’s Alexa for Shopping can now send personalized alerts about new products, shows, tours, and books that may lead you to buy something.
In short: Amazon has added a new Alexa for Shopping feature called “Update Me When” that sends personalized alerts about new things you might want to buy.
Amazon launched “Update Me When” inside its Alexa for Shopping assistant. The feature lets people set up notifications, so Alexa can tell them when something new or relevant happens.
Amazon says the alerts can cover many situations. Examples include a favorite brand launching a new product line, a new season of a TV show becoming available, an artist announcing a concert tour, or an author releasing a new book.
This is a change in how Alexa helps with shopping. In the past, Alexa mostly responded when a person asked a question. Now, Amazon is building features that can nudge you with updates before you even think to ask (like signing up for a reminder list, but the reminders come to you).
Amazon also pointed to other shopping features that already exist in Alexa. One example is price tracking, where you can ask to be alerted when an item drops to a certain price or discount. Amazon says Alexa can even buy the item automatically when it hits the price you set, if you choose that option.
For regular shoppers, this could make it easier to keep up with launches and deals without constantly checking. At the same time, it may lead to more shopping prompts, since the alerts are designed around moments that could trigger a purchase.
