Airbnb adds AI search and expands in-app services and social features

What happened

Airbnb said it is adding more hotel-like services inside its app in select locations. These include meal delivery, laundry, baby gear rental, ski and boat rental, and an expansion of grocery delivery.

The company is also launching “AI search.” AI, or artificial intelligence, is software that can pick up patterns from lots of data and respond to what you ask for (like a helper that can guess what you mean, not just match keywords). Users can turn on a toggle and search using text or voice. As you type, Airbnb shows suggested filters based on what you mention. For example, if you type “baby,” it may surface options like cribs, playgrounds, or children’s books and toys.

Airbnb said it will also use AI to highlight important details about a property. It will let users compare saved listings using AI-written summaries and reviews.

On the social side, Airbnb is adding new ways to see and follow trips taken by your connections. Travelers can view a map based on friends’ past or upcoming trips, tap a trip to see where someone stayed and what they did, and choose not to share trip details for privacy. Airbnb is also building neighborhood pages based on guest reviews and other sources to help people find places to eat and things to do.
