Wired reports Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei is no longer leading White House talks about re-releasing the Claude Fable 5 AI model.
In short: WIRED reports that Anthropic’s White House talks about bringing back its Claude Fable 5 AI model are now being led by cofounder Tom Brown, not CEO Dario Amodei.
People familiar with the matter told WIRED that the Trump administration has recently been more willing to talk with Anthropic. One reason, according to those people, is that Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei is no longer the main person in the room for these meetings.
Instead, Anthropic cofounder Tom Brown has been representing the company in discussions about re-releasing Claude Fable 5. Claude Fable 5 is an AI model, meaning a software system that can produce text and answer questions, like a very advanced autocomplete.
The talks are happening because the White House and Anthropic have been in a dispute over whether Fable 5 can be made safe enough to put back online. A key issue has been “jailbreaks,” which is when someone finds a trick to get an AI system to ignore its rules (like finding a side door into a locked building).
In additional context shared with AIDIRECTORY, one official described Amodei as a “weirdo.” The overall message from the reporting is that personalities and trust are affecting how these negotiations are going, not just the technical questions.
Whether Anthropic can reach an agreement with the White House may depend on what safety commitments it can make and who is presenting them. Watch for any formal decision on if, and when, Claude Fable 5 will be allowed to return, and what new limits or tests the government asks for.
