Uber says its full workforce will use ChatGPT Work, after an earlier pilot with 1,000 employees across teams like finance and operations.
In short: Uber says all 30,000 of its employees will now use ChatGPT Work, a business version of ChatGPT meant to help with everyday tasks.
Uber and OpenAI said they are expanding their partnership. Uber told TechCrunch that its entire global workforce, about 30,000 people, will be using ChatGPT Work.
ChatGPT Work launched in July. It is an “AI agent,” which is software that can help complete work tasks, a bit like a digital assistant that can write, summarize, and organize information.
Uber previously tested ChatGPT Work with 1,000 employees. That trial included people in finance, operations, and product. Uber said about 80% of early users were not engineers.
Uber’s vice president of engineering, Sumanth Sukumar, said employees used the tool for tasks like analyzing operational data to find trends, translating and adapting training materials for different countries and languages, and building interactive dashboards (custom pages that pull together key numbers, like a car dashboard shows speed and fuel).
Uber did not say how much it is paying for the company-wide rollout. Sukumar said Uber plans to track how employees use the tool, see which work processes they build around it, and use those results to guide future use of AI inside the company. Uber also said OpenAI worked closely on integrating the tool into Uber’s systems.
This is another sign that big companies are moving AI tools from small tests to everyday office work. If tools like ChatGPT Work become common at companies the size of Uber, many jobs could change in small ways, such as how reports are written, how data is reviewed, and how internal documents are prepared.
