1Password for Agents lets approved AI agents log into accounts while 1Password fills in the password, so the agent never sees it.
In short: 1Password is launching “1Password for Agents,” a feature that lets AI agents log into your accounts without being shown your passwords.
1Password says its new system is meant for AI agents, which are AI tools that can carry out tasks for you, like booking travel or updating a work app. Some of those tasks require signing into websites and services.
Instead of copying and pasting a password into an AI tool, the agent identifies itself to 1Password using a unique digital key (like showing an ID card). 1Password then sends you a notification that explains which account the agent wants to access and why.
If you approve the request on your own device, 1Password fills in the login details for that site. The agent gets signed in and can continue its task, but it never sees or handles your password.
1Password compares the approval flow to two-factor authentication, which is the extra confirmation step many apps use, often through a code or a phone prompt. The company says the feature is designed to work with several popular agents, including Meta Muse, ChatGPT Work and Dots, Claude Duet, Grok Bot, and Town. It also listed more partners it says are working on support.
More people are trying AI agents for everyday work, but handing over passwords can be risky and hard to control. This approach aims to make signing in feel more like letting a trusted helper through a door you unlock yourself, rather than giving them a permanent copy of your house key.
