Meta is testing a Threads feature that lets public accounts mention Meta AI to get context on trends and breaking news, starting in a few countries.
In short: Threads is testing a feature that lets people mention Meta AI in a post or reply to get quick context and recommendations inside the conversation.
Meta is testing a Meta AI integration in Threads that works in a similar way to Grok on X. If you have a public Threads account, you can mention Meta AI in a post or reply and ask a question about what people are talking about.
Meta says the goal is to help people get real-time context about trends and breaking stories, plus recommendations, without leaving Threads. It is like asking a helpful account in the thread to quickly explain what is going on.
In the test, Meta AI replies publicly from the @meta.ai account. It will answer in the same language as the post where it was mentioned. Meta says the feature is currently in beta testing in Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Argentina, and Singapore.
Meta also shared ways to reduce how often you see these AI replies. You can mute @meta.ai, mark Meta AI posts as “Not interested,” or hide a Meta AI reply that appears directly on your post.
When an AI helper is built into a social app, it can shape what people understand about the news in the moment. That can be useful, but it also raises questions about accuracy and safety, since AI can sometimes say incorrect or harmful things. Meta says it will use early feedback to improve the feature before expanding it to more people.
