ScrollEd says it can turn PDFs and textbooks into a scrollable feed with AI-made video, audio, and quizzes. It plans a consumer launch at TechCrunch Disrupt.
In short: ScrollEd is launching an app that turns textbooks and PDFs into a TikTok-like feed with short videos, audio, and quizzes.
ScrollEd is a startup based in Palo Alto, California. It was founded by two students who are also spouses, Utsav Gupta and Rebecca Neff. The company is pitching at TechCrunch Disrupt, and it plans to launch its consumer version there.
The app lets a user upload a text file, including a textbook or a PDF. It then turns that material into a vertical feed that you can scroll through, similar to TikTok or Instagram Reels. As you swipe, the app shows AI-generated content, including video, audio, text summaries, and interactive quizzes (think of it like flashcards that appear inside a social media feed).
ScrollEd says swiping up brings a new topic, and swiping sideways lets you go deeper on the same topic. A quiz can appear at the end to check understanding. Gupta told TechCrunch the goal is to “meet” younger learners where they already spend time, without trying to maximize scrolling for its own sake.
The company says it will use a freemium model. That means a free version plus a paid subscription called ScrollEd Pro. Schools and training programs can also pay for licenses, and get reports on things like engagement and lesson progress.
Many people struggle to sit down with long reading, especially on phones. Tools like ScrollEd are betting that learning will work better if it feels more like the apps people already use, while still giving ways to go deeper than a quick clip.
