A report says Apple is speeding up plans to make Siri handle more complex actions, including deeper control of Apple apps and later, third-party apps.
In short: A report says Apple is pushing to upgrade Siri so it can do more multi step tasks, including controlling more apps on your behalf.
Apple is trying to speed up its plans for a smarter version of Siri, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, as cited by The Verge. The report says Apple executive John Ternus is pressuring software chief Craig Federighi to move faster.
The goal is to make Siri more like an “AI agent,” meaning it can take actions for you inside apps, not just answer questions. Think of it like a helper who can actually tap buttons and fill out forms for you, instead of only giving advice.
The report describes two near term upgrades. First, Siri is expected to get more detailed control over Apple’s own apps. Examples mentioned include rotating and cropping photos in the Photos app and organizing tabs in Safari. These changes are expected to arrive with iOS 27.3.
A second, bigger step is expected later, possibly in the spring. That is when Siri could start working inside third party apps. The report gives examples like placing an order through Grubhub or booking a dinner reservation through OpenTable.
The longer term plan is for Siri to handle ongoing goals without you telling it every single step, similar to competing assistants like OpenAI’s Dots or Meta’s Muse. If Apple ships these features, the big questions will be which apps support them at launch, how reliable they are, and what controls users get over what Siri is allowed to do.
