A report says Apple is lowering daily spending limits for AI tools used by staff, with engineering caps dropping from $300 to $200 and possibly lower.
In short: A report says Apple is lowering how much its teams can spend each day on AI tools used inside the company.
Bloomberg reports that Apple has started cutting daily spending limits for AI use by its employees. This refers to AI tools staff use while doing their jobs, like getting help writing code or summarizing information.
According to the report, Apple lowered the daily cap for engineering teams in October. The limit reportedly dropped from $300 per day to $200 per day.
More cuts may be coming. Some engineering allowances could fall to $100 a day, Bloomberg sources said. For teams outside engineering, Apple is reportedly considering a daily limit as low as $25.
TechCrunch said it contacted Apple for comment.
The report comes after a period when many companies encouraged heavy AI use at work. Using these tools can create ongoing costs, often measured in “tokens” (think of tokens like the meter running, where more AI output usually means a higher bill).
This is a sign that even large companies are paying closer attention to the day to day cost of AI at work. For regular people, it can affect how quickly new features get built and tested, and how companies balance spending on AI versus other priorities. It also suggests some employers may move from “use as much AI as possible” to “use AI only when it clearly saves time or money.”
