Palo Alto Networks is reportedly negotiating to buy Clutch Security, a startup that controls what AI agents can access inside company systems, for about $500M.
In short: Palo Alto Networks is in talks to buy Clutch Security for about $500 million, according to a person familiar with the discussions.
Palo Alto Networks is reportedly negotiating to acquire Clutch Security for $500 million in cash, plus extra payments tied to future milestones. Clutch is a three-year-old startup that helps companies control and monitor what AI agents can access.
AI agents are AI tools that can take actions on a user’s behalf, like looking up information or triggering tasks in business software. Giving them access can be useful, but it can also be risky, like handing an intern a master key without clear rules.
A source told TechCrunch that Clutch was last valued at $85 million when it raised a $20 million funding round in January 2025, led by Lightspeed and SignalFire. The company is said to be approaching $10 million in annual recurring revenue, which is the steady subscription revenue software companies bring in each year.
Neither Palo Alto Networks nor Clutch Security responded to requests for comment, TechCrunch reported. The Information first reported the acquisition talks.
This is another sign that cybersecurity companies are paying up for tools meant to reduce AI-related risks. As more businesses let AI agents connect to internal systems, they need clearer controls over what those agents can see and do. Deals like this suggest security spending will keep shifting toward protecting these newer kinds of automated helpers.
