OpenAI added two tiers to its Daybreak security service and introduced GPT-5.6-Cyber, a new AI model meant for defensive cybersecurity work.
In short: OpenAI expanded its Daybreak cybersecurity service and added a new AI model called GPT-5.6-Cyber for approved customers.
OpenAI says it is expanding Daybreak, its cybersecurity defense program. Cybersecurity means protecting computers and online systems from break-ins and scams.
Daybreak now has two levels, called Blue and Red. OpenAI says both tiers can give approved customers access to its limited-access “frontier” cyber models, which it describes as its most advanced models.
The Blue tier is positioned as the starting option for most organizations. OpenAI says it includes help with incident response (what you do right after a breach), malware analysis (studying harmful software), and patch validation (checking that a software fix actually closes a hole).
The Red tier is aimed at deeper security testing. OpenAI says it includes “purpose-trained” cybersecurity models that can help with security testing and vulnerability research, which means looking for weak spots before attackers do.
OpenAI also introduced GPT-5.6-Cyber, a new cyber-trained model available only in the Red tier. The company says it is based on GPT-5.6 Sol and is better at certain specialized security tasks.
For now, OpenAI says GPT-5.6-Cyber is only available to “trusted customer partners.” Reports have named companies like Accenture, IBM, CrowdStrike, and Cloudflare among early access users.
More attacks are being linked to AI tools, including cases where an AI “agent” acts like an automated helper that can carry out steps on its own (like a fast intern following instructions). As AI tools get easier to use, both attackers and defenders can move faster, so who gets access to powerful security models and how they are controlled will matter to many businesses and their customers.
