Nvidia has launched PAIR, a free tool that connects compatible computers on your home network so they can share the work of running AI models locally.
In short: Nvidia has released a free tool called PAIR that lets multiple computers in your home share the work of running AI tasks on your own devices.
Nvidia announced Personal AI Router, or PAIR. Despite the name, it is not a physical router you buy and plug in. It is open-source software, which means the code is public and anyone can review or build on it.
PAIR looks for compatible computers on the same home network, connects them, and sets them up to run AI “inference” tasks. Inference is the part where an AI model answers a question or completes a request, like a calculator doing the actual math after you press equals.
Nvidia says PAIR is meant to work with local AI tools such as Ollama and LM Studio. “Local” means the AI runs on your own computer instead of sending your request to a company’s online servers.
The tool is designed to use computers when they are idle, so it should avoid slowing down what you are actively doing. Nvidia also says the connected computers can work in parallel, like a group of people each taking one part of a big to-do list. PAIR can adjust when devices join or leave, including if someone starts using a computer for something demanding like playing a game.
PAIR mainly supports PCs with Nvidia GeForce RTX 20-series graphics cards or newer, plus some professional Nvidia systems. Nvidia says Apple Macs with M4 chips or newer are also supported.
For people who want to run AI at home, PAIR could make results faster by spreading work across the devices they already own. It may also help keep more data at home, since “local” AI can reduce what you need to send over the internet.
