Microsoft is changing parts of Windows to better support Nvidia’s RTX Spark laptops, including easier setup for local AI agents and model updates.
In short: Microsoft is tuning Windows to run better on Nvidia’s new RTX Spark laptops, with a focus on built-in AI features and smoother setup.
Microsoft and Nvidia recently showcased the first wave of RTX Spark laptops at events in San Francisco. These laptops run Windows, but they use Arm-based chips instead of the more common x64 chips found in most AMD and Intel laptops.
Because the hardware is different, Microsoft has been making changes so Windows works well on these machines. According to Microsoft’s Peter Dawoud, one goal is to make it simple to get an AI agent running when someone turns on an RTX Spark laptop for the first time.
An AI agent is a software helper that can do tasks for you, like a very capable app that can follow instructions. Microsoft says Windows will show a new “Get Started” setup on RTX Spark devices, letting people pick an agent, install it, and open it in “two clicks.” Microsoft also plans for agents to be installed and updated through the Windows Store, which is like an app store built into Windows.
For shoppers, the promise is that these laptops should feel like normal Windows PCs, even though they have different parts inside. If AI tools are meant to run directly on the laptop, setup and updates need to be simple, like installing any other app. Microsoft’s approach aims to reduce the usual hassle of finding the right downloads and keeping them updated.
