Google is launching Universal Cart in the US, letting people save items from different stores in one place and get alerts for price drops and restocks.
In short: Google is rolling out Universal Cart in the US to let people save items from many online stores in one shared shopping cart inside Google Search and the Gemini app.
Google has started rolling out a new feature called Universal Cart. It is arriving first in the US, and it works in Google Search and the Gemini app.
Universal Cart is meant to solve a common online shopping problem. Many people browse across multiple store sites, then lose track of what they wanted to buy. Google says this tool keeps those items in one place, like a single basket you can carry while walking through different shops in a mall.
You can add products you find through the Gemini app and through Google Search AI Mode, and they all appear in the same cart. Google says it plans to connect Universal Cart to Gmail and YouTube later, but it did not share a timeline.
Google will also send notifications if an item in your cart drops in price or comes back in stock. The cart can show promo codes it finds next to the items you saved.
When you are ready to buy, you can either pay using Google Wallet, or move items into the store’s own cart and check out there. The Verge notes that the demo suggests you cannot check out from multiple retailers at the same time.
For regular shoppers, this could make it easier to compare options and wait for discounts without manually checking several websites. It also shows how big tech companies are trying to make shopping tools that do more of the organizing work for you.
