Microsoft says a unified Copilot app is coming later this year

What happened

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said on an earnings call that the company is bringing several Copilot features into one app. He said it will be aimed at both everyday users and workplace customers.

Today, Copilot shows up in different places and products. Microsoft says the new app will combine Copilot’s chat, GitHub Copilot for coding help, and other Copilot tools like “Cowork.”

Microsoft also said the app will include “agentic” features. That means the AI can do multi step tasks on your behalf, more like a helper who can follow instructions and carry them out (for example, “pull information together, draft something, and get it ready to share”), instead of only answering questions.

Nadella’s comments confirm earlier reporting from Fortune that Microsoft was working on this kind of all in one Copilot app. The Verge also notes that OpenAI recently announced a “ChatGPT Work” app that combines ChatGPT with its coding tool, Codex.

Microsoft shared the Copilot update alongside its latest financial results. The company said quarterly revenue rose to $90 billion, helped by its AI and cloud businesses.

For regular people, this could make Copilot simpler to use. Instead of jumping between separate apps or features, Microsoft is trying to put everything in one place, like a single remote that controls multiple devices.
