A report says Apple is redesigning Siri in iOS 27, adding a standalone Siri app and deeper search features meant to compete with chatbots like ChatGPT.
In short: A TechCrunch report says leaked images show Apple working on a redesigned Siri and a new Siri app for iOS 27.
Bloomberg published leaked images, called renders, that show what Apple may ship with iOS 27, the next major iPhone software update. TechCrunch reports the images suggest Apple is rebuilding Siri so it can handle more tasks, and so it feels more like a chatbot such as ChatGPT.
One visible change is where Siri appears on screen. Instead of taking over the display, Siri responses may show up from the Dynamic Island, the black pill-shaped area at the top of newer iPhones. This looks aimed at quick questions, like asking the weather or searching for something fast.
Another change would affect search on the iPhone. The familiar swipe down gesture that opens Spotlight Search, the built-in search tool, would still work. But Bloomberg says results would be powered by a new Siri system that uses Google’s Gemini technology behind the scenes (think of it like using another company’s engine under the hood).
Bloomberg also says Apple plans a standalone Siri app. It would show your past chats and let you upload documents and photos, not just type text.
Many people already use ChatGPT and similar tools as a do-it-all helper for questions, writing, and planning. If Apple builds a stronger Siri directly into the iPhone’s main search and adds a dedicated Siri app, more people may try these tools without downloading anything extra. It also signals Apple may lean on partners like Google for some AI features while it builds more of its own, including options that can run on the device for privacy.
