Insilico reported that its AI-designed IPF drug rentosertib also reduced several biological age readings in a new analysis of trial data.
In short: Insilico Medicine says a new analysis of clinical trial data suggests its IPF drug candidate rentosertib may lower several “biological age” measurements, but this is still early evidence.
Insilico Medicine is developing an experimental drug called rentosertib, previously known as ISM001-055. The drug is being tested for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, or IPF, a rare lung disease where lung tissue becomes scarred over time and breathing gets harder.
The company says it used a generative AI platform to help pick a drug target and design the molecule. Generative AI is software that can produce new outputs based on patterns in data, like a tool that suggests many possible designs and helps researchers choose promising ones.
On September 7, 2026, new reporting described a company analysis of the same clinical dataset showing something extra. Insilico says people who received rentosertib showed lower readings on six “aging clocks,” while the placebo group showed little change. Aging clocks are tests that estimate biological age using markers in the body, often from blood data, like using several different rulers to estimate how worn a machine is inside.
Rentosertib is also described as a “first-in-class” small-molecule inhibitor of TNIK. TNIK is a protein in the body, and an inhibitor is a drug meant to reduce its activity, like turning down a dial.
Insilico started a Phase III trial in July 2026. Phase III is a large study meant to confirm whether a drug works and is safe enough for wider use.
Claims about slowing aging attract attention, but this result is best viewed as an early, company-reported analysis rather than proof that the drug slows aging in general. For patients, the main question remains whether rentosertib can safely help treat IPF, and the ongoing Phase III trial will be a key test.
