Huawei says it will launch its next Ascend 960DT AI chip in early 2027, moving up the timeline as it competes with Nvidia.

Huawei announced at its Huawei Connect conference that the Ascend 960DT, a new AI chip, is now expected to be ready in Q1 2027. An AI chip is a specialized computer part made to run AI work faster (like a dedicated engine for a specific job). A Huawei spokesperson told TechCrunch the company had earlier planned to launch the chip in Q3 2027.
Huawei also described a bigger plan for how it wants to use large numbers of chips together. It says it is working on a way to link hundreds of thousands, and eventually millions, of AI chips so they act like one large computer. Think of it like connecting many smaller generators to power one big building (each chip adds more capacity).
The company calls this approach its Peerium Computing Architecture. It relies on a linking system called UnifiedBus, which helps connect processors with memory, storage, and networking equipment so the system can work as a whole.
Huawei said its Atlas 950 SuperPoD and SuperCluster are the first systems built around this idea. It also said an Atlas 950 SuperCluster can connect up to 256,000 accelerator cards, which are add-on boards used to speed up AI calculations.
AI systems need a lot of computing power, and chips are a key bottleneck. Huawei’s faster timeline signals it wants to boost China’s ability to build and run large AI systems, even as the U.S. restricts access to some advanced chip technology. Analysts also noted some uncertainty about how large Huawei’s near-term systems will be, compared with earlier claims.
