Grokipedia starts updating pages again after months-long pause

Grokipedia is an online encyclopedia that uses AI (software that can write and check text) to help create and update articles. According to The Verge, it had slowed down or stopped reviewing edits for months. In August, the publication Lawfare reported that Grokipedia had not reviewed edits since April.

Now, Grokipedia’s public “live updates” page is showing new changes. Many of the recent updates look like placeholders, with notes such as “recheck all references and sources,” which suggests the system is running checks even if it is not making big edits yet.

The Verge also found signs of page-by-page activity. The article for former US President Barack Obama shows a note saying it was “Fact-checked by Grok” two days earlier. The page for Elon Musk was fact-checked within the last hour while the reporter was writing. But other pages still look untouched for long stretches, for example a Honolulu page that showed it was last fact-checked seven months ago.

The Verge tested the site by suggesting an edit to add an October 6 release date to the page for the game Gears of War: E-Day. Grokipedia accepted the suggestion and displayed the date. The reporter also requested a new article about Meta’s Muse chatbot, and the request was marked “In Review.”

SpaceXAI did not immediately respond to a request for comment, and Musk has not posted about Grokipedia on X since February.
