Google Photos virtual closet rolls out on Android and iOS

What happened

Google says its new virtual closet is now available on both Android and iOS in the supported countries. The company first announced the feature earlier in 2026. It started reaching Android users in June, and it is now more broadly available.

The feature uses AI (software that finds patterns, like how your phone can recognize faces in photos) to spot clothing items in your pictures. It then builds a digital version of your wardrobe inside Google Photos. Think of it like a catalog of what you have worn before, made automatically from your photo history.

From there, users can browse and filter items by category, such as tops, bottoms, and jewelry. Google also says you can mix and match items to plan outfits.

Google said the tool is meant to help users, and that information about how you dress is not shared with third parties such as retailers.

The rollout comes alongside other Google Photos updates. These include new editing tools in Markup, including a way to blur sensitive details like license plates. Android users also get new “Moods” filters that change the look of photos, such as making them look like 35mm film.

Why it matters

For many people, picking what to wear is a daily hassle, especially if you forget what is clean, what fits, or what you wore recently. A built in closet view could make outfit planning easier using photos you already have, without needing a separate closet app.
