Google tests Gemini feature that makes calls for you on Pixel 11

In short: Google is testing a new Pixel 11 feature that lets its Gemini assistant call businesses on your behalf.

What happened

Google announced an experimental beta feature called Call for Me. It is only available on Pixel 11 phones in the US, and it works in English.

To use it, Pixel 11 owners need a paid Gemini subscription. They also have to join the public beta version of the Phone by Google app. Google says the feature is meant for calling businesses, not emergency services.

Call for Me works like a helper who sits next to you and makes a phone call while you listen in. You tell Gemini what you need, like asking a hardware store if they have a specific tool or calling a barber to book a haircut. Gemini may ask a few follow-up questions, then it calls the business, introduces itself, and has a back-and-forth conversation.

Google says Gemini can also handle common call frustrations. It can deal with automated phone menus (the “press 1 for sales” kind of system), and it can wait on hold. On your phone, you can watch a live transcript of what is being said, and you can take over the call at any time.

Why it matters

Many people avoid calling businesses because it takes time and can be awkward, especially with long hold times or confusing menus. If Call for Me works reliably, it could save people a few minutes on routine tasks. It also raises practical questions, like whether businesses will hang up if they think it is spam, and how well the assistant understands different accents and noisy environments.
