Google will put Gemini on Argentina’s training gear and use it to help analyze games. Fans may also see more AI answers in Google Search during matches.
In short: Google is partnering with Argentina’s national soccer team to showcase its Gemini AI during the World Cup, both for coaching analysis and for fan features in Search.
Google has signed a deal with the Argentine Football Association (AFA) that makes Gemini the national team’s main global sponsor. Gemini is Google’s AI tool (software that can write, summarize, and answer questions, a bit like a very fast assistant).
As part of the agreement, Gemini’s logo will appear on Argentina’s training kit. Google also says the team will use AI to analyze plays, player form, performance, and statistics. Google has not shared exactly which internal tools Argentina will use.
Google spokesperson Flor Sabatini said the goal is not only to use AI, but also to understand its limits in a high-pressure setting. Google reportedly closed the deal in March and announced it in May, while it continued talks with other teams. Wired reports Google has also made deals with Brazil and France.
Many fans will notice this through Google Search. During the tournament, Google plans to provide AI-generated answers for real-time questions, plus breakdowns of key plays and deeper stats. It also plans tools to help fans create chants, memes, and images for social media.
This is a big test because mistakes will be very public. If Gemini gets a statistic wrong, invents a lineup, or creates an incorrect team image, millions of people could see it at once.
