Google CEO Sundar Pichai says the Gemini app passed 1 billion monthly active users as Google expands Gemini across Search, Android, and other products.
In short: Google CEO Sundar Pichai says the Gemini app has passed 1 billion monthly active users.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai said on X that the Gemini app now has more than 1 billion monthly active users. Monthly active users means the number of people who use the app at least once in a month.
Pichai said Gemini is one of Google’s fastest-growing products, and that it is the 14th Google product to reach the 1 billion user mark. Google has been adding Gemini into more places, including Google Search, Google Workspace (tools like Gmail and Docs), Android phones, and a separate Gemini app.
Google also shared a few details about how people use Gemini. The company said 63% of Gemini users talk to it using voice, instead of typing. Google also said Gemini now creates more than 150 million images per day.
Google stressed that this 1 billion figure is for the Gemini app itself. It does not count people who use Gemini features inside other Google products. The company also said Gemini has more than 100 million active users on iOS, which is Apple’s iPhone operating system.
This milestone shows how quickly chat-style AI assistants are becoming a normal tool, like a calculator or a search bar (a place you go to get quick help). It also puts Google’s Gemini in the same scale range as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which reportedly reached 1 billion monthly active users in June.
