Intelligence, the company behind DesignArena, raised $7.9M to expand its platform where people rank AI-made images and designs to help AI labs improve.
In short: Intelligence, the company behind DesignArena, raised $7.9 million to grow a product that collects human opinions on AI generated designs.
Intelligence announced a $7.9 million seed funding round led by Index Ventures. Other investors included Conviction, A*, Valkyrie, and others.
The company runs DesignArena, a site used by 5.3 million people worldwide. It started after co-founder Grace Li and friends noticed their AI game engine could make working games, but the games were not fun. That led them to a simple idea, you still need people to judge what feels good.
For everyday users, DesignArena works like a “taste test” for AI. You type what you want, like an image or a website style, then you compare results in simple A vs. B choices until the outputs are ranked best to worst.
On the business side, AI labs can pay to see what people consistently prefer. The company says the platform is generating about $60 million in ARR (annual recurring revenue, meaning revenue expected to repeat each year from subscriptions and contracts).
A lot of AI tools can produce pictures, layouts, and other media, but it is hard to measure what people actually like. DesignArena’s approach uses real human choices, which can be harder to “game” than automated tests. If more companies pay for this kind of feedback, it could shape what AI generated content looks like in different countries and over time.
