Cloudflare introduced Kitesurf, a cloud-hosted browser made for AI agents to automate web tasks. It is free in beta and aims to use less computing power.
In short: Cloudflare has launched Kitesurf, a cloud-hosted web browser designed for AI agents instead of people.
Cloudflare, a company that runs internet infrastructure, introduced a new browser called Kitesurf. Unlike Chrome or Firefox, it is not meant for people to click around the web. It is meant for AI agents, which are AI programs that can carry out tasks for you, like a helpful assistant that can use websites.
Cloudflare says AI agents need different things than humans do. For example, they do not need tabs, themes, or add-ons. Instead, they need to keep track of what they are doing across many steps, manage costs tied to AI usage, and run reliably at large scale.
Kitesurf is designed to help developers build AI tools that can navigate websites, fill out forms, take screenshots, and pull information from pages, without having to create their own browser from scratch. Cloudflare said it started building Kitesurf about 12 weeks ago.
The browser runs on Cloudflare Workers, which is Cloudflare’s system for running code on its servers (like renting a kitchen instead of building your own). Kitesurf is available for free while it is in beta through Cloudflare’s Browser Run product, which lets developers control a “headless” browser, meaning it works without showing a normal on-screen window.
Cloudflare also claims Kitesurf uses less CPU and memory than Chromium, the open-source browser engine behind Google Chrome, for common automated tasks.
More services are starting to use AI agents to do real work online, not just answer questions. If those agents can use the web more efficiently, it could lower costs for companies building these tools and make automated online tasks faster and more reliable.
