Apple releases iOS 27 public beta with Siri AI preview

A reporter at The Verge said they have been using iOS 27 since early June and described this update as mostly about polishing and performance, not flashy new features.

According to the report, iOS 27 should make everyday tasks faster. That includes quicker app launches, faster search in the Photos app, and faster AirDrop transfers (AirDrop is Apple’s way to send files to nearby devices, like handing someone a digital note).

There are also a few messaging changes. The Messages app now supports in-line replies, and it adds end-to-end encryption for RCS messages. End-to-end encryption means the message is scrambled so only you and the person you are talking to can read it, like a locked letter that only two people have keys for.

The biggest change is Siri AI, which Apple is offering as an opt-in beta inside iOS 27. The Verge says the public beta feels more like a preview than the finished vision, because many of Siri AI’s best features depend on app developers updating their apps to work with it.

Why it matters

For most iPhone owners, iOS 27 sounds like a “make things smoother” update, especially on older phones. Siri AI is the headline feature, but early testers say it may not feel fully useful everywhere until more apps are updated to support it.
