A new Anthropic report says its workforce is less junior, teams spend more time in meetings, and more work involves managing its AI assistant Claude.
In short: Anthropic says its staff is getting more senior and employees are spending more time coordinating work as they use the company’s AI assistant more heavily.
Anthropic, the company behind the AI assistant Claude, published a report describing how work inside the company has changed over the past year. The company says it has reshaped many day to day tasks around AI tools.
One change is hiring. Anthropic says the share of junior employees in technical departments fell from 21% to 14% since early 2025. It also says the share of junior technical hires fell from 27% to 9%, which suggests it is bringing in fewer entry level workers.
The report also says technical teams are a smaller part of the overall workforce, down from 61% to 56%. Anthropic links that shift to growth in business roles as the company gets bigger, and to “coding tools” that let non-technical employees create some software themselves (like using a template kit instead of building everything from scratch).
Claude is also changing what some employees do each day. In an April 2026 survey, 27% of employees said they became more productive because of Claude, while 20% said their job shifted toward “managing Claudes.” One employee compared it to babysitting, because multiple AI outputs can demand attention at once.
Finally, Anthropic says meeting time per employee is up 20% year over year, and up 16% for technical contributors. The company says this is because people still need trust, accountability, and face to face coordination.
If other companies adopt AI tools as deeply, they may also hire fewer junior workers and rely more on experienced staff to review and organize AI generated work. Another open question is whether “more work done” means better work, since Anthropic notes that more code does not automatically mean higher quality.
