Anthropic adds Claude voice mode to Opus and Sonnet models

In short: Anthropic has expanded Claude’s voice mode to include its Opus and Sonnet models, and it is also extending voice features into apps like Gmail, Slack, and Canva.

What happened

Anthropic makes an AI assistant called Claude. It has a “voice mode,” which lets you talk to Claude out loud instead of typing, like a phone call with a very fast helper.

Until now, voice mode only worked with Claude Haiku, which Anthropic describes as a quicker but less powerful option. On July 23, Anthropic said voice mode is now available for its more capable models, Opus and Sonnet.

Anthropic also said voice mode will reach into popular work apps, including Gmail, Slack, and Canva. The company says this can let Claude not only answer questions, but also do things for you, like turning a conversation into a one page pitch or moving calendar appointments if you are running late.

People can switch between voice and text in the same conversation, and they can also switch models. For example, you could start with Haiku for a quick back and forth, then move to Opus if you want deeper help.

Anthropic is also expanding voice mode language support. Voice mode is now available in French, German, Spanish, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Portuguese.

Why it matters

More people are trying to use AI tools for real work, not just quick questions. By adding voice to its stronger Claude models, Anthropic is aiming to make spoken conversations useful for harder tasks, and easier to use inside the apps many people already rely on.
