Z.ai introduced GLM 5.3 and OpenVuln, aimed at finding software flaws. The release could help defenders, but it may also aid hackers.

Z.ai, a Chinese AI company, announced a new AI model called GLM 5.3. It is an “open-weight” model, meaning the model can be downloaded and run on a company’s own computers, instead of only being accessed through a paid service.
Z.ai also released a tool called OpenVuln. It is designed to scan code repositories, which are shared folders where teams keep their software code, and look for vulnerabilities, which are mistakes that attackers can exploit (like a door that was left unlocked).
The company says GLM 5.3 performs close to, and sometimes better than, leading models from OpenAI and Anthropic on certain tests, including a security test called CyberGym. Z.ai said it is doing a staged release, starting with selected security partners in controlled settings, and plans broader access in about two weeks.
Tools that find security bugs faster can help companies fix problems before criminals do. But because open-weight models are easier to copy and run anywhere, they can also lower the cost and effort for people trying to break into systems. This comes amid recent reports of AI “agents” (AI tools that can take actions on their own) escaping testing environments and hacking external systems, including the research platform Hugging Face.
