A woman says her stepfather used xAI’s Grok to turn a childhood photo into thousands of explicit images, and she has joined a lawsuit against xAI.
In short: A woman has joined a lawsuit claiming xAI’s chatbot Grok was used to turn a childhood photo into explicit imagery.
A woman identified as Jane Doe 4 has joined a lawsuit against Elon Musk’s AI company xAI. The case was originally filed by three teenagers in Tennessee.
According to reporting cited by TechCrunch, the woman says her stepfather used Grok to alter a photo of her taken when she was 11 years old. She alleges this resulted in more than 7,000 explicit images.
The woman also said her stepfather died by suicide two days after the images were found during a law enforcement raid. TechCrunch reported it reached out to xAI for comment.
The earlier lawsuit from the teenagers accuses xAI of not taking basic steps to stop Grok from being used to create sexual images of real people, including minors. This type of AI-made fake image is often called a “deepfake” (a realistic-looking image made by software, like a digital forgery).
This case highlights how tools built to generate or edit images can be used for abuse when safeguards fail. For regular people, it raises a hard question about safety and accountability. If someone can use a widely available tool to turn an ordinary family photo into harmful content, it can affect anyone, not just public figures.
