Wispr Flow launches a meeting notetaker for live transcripts and summaries

In short: Wispr Flow, known for voice dictation, has launched a Notetaker feature that records what is said in meetings, writes it out live, and summarizes it afterward.

What happened

Wispr Flow CEO Tanay Kothari told WIRED that the company is expanding from dictation into meeting notes. The new feature, called Notetaker, connects to your calendar and can listen during meetings.

During a meeting, it creates a live transcript, meaning it writes down what people say as they say it. After the meeting ends, it uses generative AI, which is software that can produce text like a human, to create a summary. It also offers an “ask anything” tool, which works like searching a conversation, so you can type a question and find the part of the meeting where something was said.

Wispr says the transcription happens directly on your device and the app does not join the meeting as a visible participant. The feature is launching first on Mac, and a Windows version is expected later. Users can also increase the maximum recording length up to six hours.

Wispr includes a Privacy Mode setting. If it is enabled, the company says your dictations will not be used to train its AI models.

Why it matters

AI meeting notetakers are becoming common at work, but they raise basic trust and legal questions. Kothari said people should always tell others when a meeting is being transcribed, especially since some places, including San Francisco, require everyone in a private conversation to agree to being recorded.
